Static Shock
Milestone

[ recommended or suggested reading ]

Issues 16-20 make up the arc “What Are Little Boys Made Of?” which deals with a hate crime and the subsequent coming out of Virgil’s friend, Rick Stone. Rick can also be seen in other Static/Milestone issues and stories.

Straberry Panic! Onibus
Seven Seas

[ recommended or suggested reading ]

This book collects both volumes plus two new chapters of a story about three neighboring all-girls schools and the relationships (romantic and otherwise) formed by some of the attending students. However, it is said that this widely popular yuri manga doesn’t have a distinct ending though the light novels, which also chronicles the girls, do. This manga can also be reviewed by volume versus the series as a whole.

DREAMWAR
DC Comics/Wildstorm

[ review material on hand ]

Six issue crossover between the DC and Wildstorm universes. The inclusion isn’t great, in fact only a few GLBT characters appear and the story doesn’t really deviate from the crisis at hand but still very worth a look.

Friendly Hostility
K. Sandra Fuhr

[ recommended or suggested reading ]

Ended on July of 2009, this webcomic surrounds two best friends, Fox and Collin, who are also dating. The series has a really nice comedic pace and the three "Problematic" stories should definitely be checked out. Characters from this comic can also be found in Other People's Business.

The Order
Marvel

[ review material on hand ]

This series follows a group of celebrities put together and given powers by Tony Stark as part of his 50 state initiative. Set in California the team has a year before being forced into retirement. The series only lasted ten issues and though lesbian character Mulholland Black is present all throughout up until her death in the last issue, issue five pertains to her most explaining more of her origin and back story.

Only the Ring Finger Knows
Digital Manga Publishing

[ recommended or suggested reading ]

"Angsty" often comes to mind when reading about this five volume manga series. The plot centers around two main characters, an upper and lower class man, who both have rings that are identical to each other. Once they accidentally get switched the two are very hateful to one another though their true feelings are quite the opposite.

Elemental Micah
Michael Georgiou

[ recommended or suggested reading ]

Meet Micah, a less than perfect gay male who discovers he has special abilities after an intimate encounter with a co-worker named Simon. Now forced to deal with these newly found powers the series follows Micah’s adventures and search for answers all while dealing with his feelings for Simon. Previews and samples along with character bios and purchasing information can be found online but PDFs will be made available for review.

Transe-Generation
Matthew Nishii

[ recommended or suggested reading ]

Available as a webcomic as well as a printed collection, this awesome series illustrates the funnier, more humorous and light hearted side of transgender life as an FTM taking inspiration from actual happenings experienced by the creator. Though no longer active, the site also featured a community forum where others could chat about transgender issues. Unfortunately the comics have not updated since 2008 so the comic is either on hiatus or has since ended.

The Authority: Revolution
Wildstorm

[ review material on hand ]

This 12 part series follows the team as they rule and govern over America and if fighting Paul Revere and the Sons of Liberty wasn't bad enough, Midnighter is approached by a future version of his husband Apollo he is given information that threatens to tear the team apart forever. Violent and brutal as ever the series is not for the faint of heart.

Spider-Girl
Marvel

[ recommended or suggested reading ]

We’re not very familiar with this series or much of any of the MC2 line of comics but issues #45-48 seems to really present an interesting family dynamic with the inclusion of a bisexual character in the Black Cat. With Felicia Hardy dating a woman who used to work at her detective agency, Felicia’s daughter, Felicity, meets her (newish?) relationship with an extent of apprehension.

Nightwing
DC Comics

[ recommended or suggested reading ]

In issue #71 a character by the name Gannon Malloy is introduced. He is to become Dick Grayson’s new partner. By issue #77 he is confirmed as gay and is victim to harassment and physical abuse by fellow officers on the Blüdhaven police force. In the issue that follows Grayson sticks up for him. The character isn’t seen much outside of the title but did continue to appear in the series on and off for the next handful of issues.

Outsiders #16
DC Comics

[ review material on hand ]

If anything this issue of the 90’s series would need to be a commentary rather than an in depth review as the two characters involved, Syonide and Fauna Faust were both introduced and killed off in a matter of pages. The two are not shy about their relationship and preference whatsoever but with them being villains and their involvement in the story cut so short it’s difficult to forge much of an opinion on much else.

Shadow Cabinet and Heroes
Milestone

[ recommended or suggested reading ]

Reviews regarding lesbian couple Donner and Blitzen can be done over single issues or the series in general which ran from 1994 to 1995. There are 18 issues total including #0. The couple can also be found in other Milestone comics such as Heroes which was intended to be an ongoing series but was cut short and turned into a six limited run instead.

No Where Girl
Justine Shaw

[ recommended or suggested reading ]

Now retired, few words can describe this incredible webcomic about a girl looking for a way out, trying to find something that she's not sure can be obtainable. The story and characters are quite relatable and we're sure for many arguably familiar. The series can still be read online.

Mantra
Malibu Comics

[ recommended or suggested reading ]

Before being acquired by Marvel, Mantra was a Malibu series about Lukasz, a warrior that whenever killed in battle would have his soul placed in the bodies of others. Always being reincarnated as a male, he met great shock and anger after finding that he had been brought back as Eden Blake, a woman with two kids an an ex-husband.

Secret Six
DC Comics

[ review material on hand ]

Between Scandal Savage, Knockout, the eventual mourning of Knockout’s untimely death, the new relationship Scandal reluctantly pursues with a Knockout look-a-like stripper the gang get her for her birthday and the jokes of sexual tension between Catman and Deadshot the whole series is a plethora of inclusive content. The series can either be reviewed as a whole, by storyline, or by issue.

Hellblazer
Vertigo

[ recommended or suggested reading ]

Issue #51 dropped the first mention of Constantine's bisexuality which was further explored later in the story arc "Ashes and Dust" from #170-174. Issues #67-69 features a vampire story arc but the GLBT context within the pages is supposed to be very underlining.

Glamazonia The Uncanny Super Tranny
Justin Hall

[ recommended or suggested reading ]

Whether it's her latest adventures or her more humble beginnings (also collected in print and available on hand for review) any Glamazonia comic is sure to be a super fun read!

Great Lakes Avengers
Marvel

[ recommended or suggested reading ]

Very silly and humorous comic. The series consisted of four issues and featured two gay characters: Flatman who is on the Great Lakes Avengers team and Living Lightning who makes an appearance in issue two. The series as a whole may not have made a huge impact on the community but still very much worth a look.

Showcase #7
DC Comics

[ recommended or suggested reading ]

Also known as Knightfall #13, this comic has three stories. The last features Obsidian and his sister Jade who has just finished filming a perfume commercial. The story itself is short, not too, too engrossing, and is from '93 so it is years before Obsidian's coming out in Manhunter but for fans of the characters it may still prove a nice fun read as well as review or commentary.

Trans Girl Diaries
Evelyn Poor

[ recommended or suggested reading ]

Awesome, awesome webcomic dealing with transgender issues in both fully detailed, plotted stories as well as random doodles and comic strips. The series has been going on for three years with some of the older works even available for download in the archives section. Some entries are serious, some are silly, but all are very relevant.

HOW SKETCHY!!
Michael Troy

[ review material on hand ]

This 2009 exclusive convention sketch book contains all kinds of awesome art work, some of which (like this very brilliant piece) and more can be found at the Lethally Blond blog, Blonde Is The New Black.

Catwoman
DC Comics

[ review material on hand ]

With 82 issues, this series ran from 2002-2008 and frequently included Selina’s good friend Holly Robinson and her girlfriend Karon. Holly even took up the mantle for Selina during the “One Year Later” series of issues in 2006. Though short lived, this was still quite a pivotal thing for the character and would eventually set in motion Holly’s big move to Metropolis as seen in Countdown.

Outsiders: Five of a Kind
DC Comics

[ review material on hand ]

Featuring various members of the Outsiders including Grace in an issue with Wonder Woman and Thunder in an issue with Martian Manhunter, this five issue set sees these characters carrying on objectives to help Batman sort out who's fit for a new team of Outsiders. Other than Grace and Thunder staring in their own respective issues not a whole lot is said about them or their relationship but are still well worth a look.

SHOUT OUT LOUD!
Blu

[ recommended or suggested reading ]

Shino is a thirty-five year old voice actor for yaoi anime. His son, Nakaya who is not very keen on the idea of what his father does for a living begins to struggle with his own sexuality as he begins developing feelings for his Hockey coach. This causes Shino to wonder if his job is influencing his son at all. The series deals not only with homosexuality and themes of family but also bisxuality and during the course of five volumes the two main characters go through a lot with things like Nakaya's school life and pregnancy scare with his girlfriend to Shino's work and advancements from fellow voice actors.
