 Collaborators Wanted!
Every now and then, I get emails from people who are looking for artists or writers to work with on their comic projects. It occurred to me that rather than having me try to hook people up, having a space here where people can contact each other might be a more efficient option. So I’m going to suggest to people looking for collaborators that you leave samples of your work, links to your websites, descriptions of what you hope to produce, and descriptions of what kind of collaborator you are looking for here.
Also, if you have tips for helping others write or draw or whatever, feel free to include those too!
Keep in mind that Prism as a space for your work once it is completed on our Webcomics page.
Good luck to everyone.

 Re: Collaborators Wanted!
Hi all,
Well, I'm just another would-be comic book writer looking for an artist to collaborate with. To be honest, this isn't my first attempt to get artists' attention through a message board, but hope springs eternal.
I have two projects in mind, both of which have a LGBT angle:
Project 1: The setting for this is a "typical" superhero universe, although the emphasis is much less on saving-the-world-by-beating-up-people type adventures and more on the more mundane situations that can arise from living in a world where demons, alien empires, supervillains, and mad super-scientists are not only real but as commonplace as traffic accidents and Scientologists. The protagonists are a young man who grew up as a superhero in a Teen Titans/New Mutants-esque team and his boyfriend, the exiled monarch from another dimension-turned-career supervillain-turned reformed criminal pursuing a PhD in Cultural Studies. When the story begins, our superhero is about to come out to his teammates - not as a gay man, but as being in a relationship with the ex-supervillain who in the past tried to kill them all more than once.
If I can say so myself, it's a fun idea that can work in a variety of formats. I mainly see it as an ongoing series in a print medium, but I wouldn't at all be adverse to adapting it into a webcomic, possibly on Prism (hint). As for art styles, I don't have any specifications, but something more traditional and detailed would work far better than anything more abstract or cartoon-like. It doesn't have to be photorealistic, of course, but at least something like you'd see in a professionally published superhero comic.
Project 2: This one's a retelling of the biography of the notorious Roman Emperor, Caligula. However, the time and place are drastically altered to Hollywood in the 1920s. Also here Caligula is not an emperor of any sort, but a highly notorious film director proudly living on the outskirts of mainstream society and in flagrant defiance of his family, who have practically run the US government since the end of the Civil War. When Caligula announces his magnum opus, a film that simultaneously offers hefty doses of sex while ridiculing the government's efforts to impose a puppet regime on Mexico, his family and the scandalized studios conspire together for a radical solution to the Caligula problem.
I envision this as a limited series or a novel, running about 50-60 pages or so, although again I could also see this as a webcomic. I definitely think a realistic and detailed style, along the lines of the work of Phil Jimenez or Gene Colan, would be the only way to go. The artist for this project would ideally also have a willingness to do the research needed to be able to imitate the fashions and popular hairstyles of the American 1920s.
If either of the two or both sound remotely interesting and you think your style suits them, contact me! For reasons that I hope are understandable, I'd rather not link to samples or provide more detailed synopses, but I'd be happy to provide more information to anyone who sends me their art sample. As for me, it probably goes without saying that I can't provide payment or a guaranteed print medium. However, I do have a little experience writing comics as the co-creator and writer of a children's comic published through a non-profit organization, "Scrapyard Detectives," if that helps, and you have my assurance that I am quite serious about trying to get my foot in the door of the industry.

 Re: Collaborators Wanted!
Hello. I'm a writer in the Dallas area looking for a local artist to help me with my idea for "Fighting Spirit." A college student is drugged and kidnapped by forces unknown. He awakes in a cold basement wearing only a cloak and a mask. He finds that his body hair has been shaven off, but it is not in the basement. FS finds out that he can fly, pass through most barriers, and burn people with his fiery touch. He can also scry future events by looking at water. But he can only use one power at a time. At first he does not understand why he has such odd ghostly powers. But his comic-book reading uncle helps him realize that he has the powers of certain spirits, not ghosts. Fighting Spirit is a unique blend of super-heroics and horror, similar to the stories of Vampirella and Ghost. Only he will be wearing a much skimpier costume than those two ever did. Sometimes his nudity is shown while in flight. FS battles the following villains: The neo-Nazi Swastika, whose symbol gives him good luck. The Blood Count, whose universal blood type turns its recipients into his slaves. Ace Spader, whose Ace of Spades card makes its current become possessed by a serial killer. Glaucoma, the sneak thief of sight who blinds comic-book readers. Personal Demon, a modern-day Spring-Heeled Jack. If any artists are interested in this project, please let me know by contacting me at Joseceasar@yahoo.com. Thank you.

 Re: Collaborators Wanted!
Comic book project seeking collaborative artistTwo professional (or “badass,” if professional sounds too stuffy for you) writers with a developing project that blends slice-of-life storytelling with the superhero genre seek a confident artist. We’re open to all styles, but are particularly interested in clean indie/superhero style work. Currently, our plan is to self-publish the initial product in order to showcase the material for third-party publication and/or production company interest. We believe in solid character-centric storytelling. This is a non-paying gig, but will include creative credit and a collaborative work environment. Please send samples of sequential work to converseba2@yahoo.com

 Re: Collaborators Wanted!
I have several comic scripts which I would like to have drawn, which would be put up on IndyPlanet with the profits split with the artist 50/50. Though these comics are part of a superhero universe, they are varied enough to have a few different styles involved. As well, I have three community projects on Drunk Duck: The Broken, a community art project (I wrote all the scripts) following a transgender student and her friend/boyfriend through their freshman year at a superhero high school (set in the Pride High universe); Karabear Comics Unlimited, another community art project, but a bit more open and with stories which could be put up on IndyPlanet--it's an anthology, but superhero-oriented; and Trans Dimensional Trans Superheroes, which is envisioned as a full community project, centered around a team of multi-dimensional transgender and intersex superheroes (sort of a Heroes Unite/Alliance but not limited to only one universe, and with trans characters)--this one would of course need artists, but writers and people contributing their own characters is important, as I would want this one to move beyond just my vision (though I would be writing the first issue). Thirdly, I have a script for a Heroes Alliance story which I need broken into pages and panels (I don't generally do this with my scripts, so I do need help, as this would make it easier to divvy out the pages to the artists in the project). Artists are fine, too, but the script breakdown is currently a very important aspect. Art styles requested: any. Well, not sprites (unless you can make completely original sprites) or stick figures (unless you have epically awesome stick figures). While I will try to give scripts which appeal to your style, I believe that a good artist makes a comic work in their style. This means I am taking Western traditional, manga, DC Animated Universe style, EC horror style (in fact I have a script which could use this style), realism, 90s-style, photo comics (if feasible, as I know it takes a lot of networking and time), CG comics, and so on. If anybody is willing to be a long-term artist for me, doing many issues, I would, of course, love that. However, I take each artist at the idea that they are only willing to do one issue. I may ask if they can do more than one, or send them more than one script (for better ability to pick which works for them), but I will not expect more (even when an artist pledges that they will do more--life often gets in the way). However, for the ones who do express a more extended involvement, I also have some stories which I would love to hand off to more capable and motivated storytellers. This is a line of comics that I'm creating, and it helps free up time and help refine the focus if I do it this way (and I know there are stories out there which others have and I haven't thought of). All I would ask in such circumstances is that I act as editor, just to make sure that the characters don't veer wildly out of character, and nothing contradicts any story elements I either have planned or have put in place (I'd hope that's a reasonable request, as they remain my characters). Contact me here or at my e-mail ( karamesser@hotmail.com).
