APE 2005 Wrap-Up
by Charles "Zan" Christensen, posted April 12th, 2005 [Print-ready Version]
To paraphrase a certain Comic Book Guy: "Best… APE… ever." In so many ways.
"We were everywhere" at the Alternative Press Expo this year. I counted about 10 queer exhibitors, and I'm sure I missed some: Eric Shanower and David Maxine (Hungry Tiger Press), Jennifer Camper (Juicy Mother), Patrick Fillion4 (True Travel Tales from All Thumbs Press), Patrick Fillion2 and Robert Kirby (Boy Trouble), Brett Hopkins and Richard Ruane (Two Shy Guys), Patrick Fillion7 (Myth), Randall Kirby (BOP! Comics, co-editor of Young Bottoms in Love and maker of "incredibly detailed" Ice Queen action figures), Patrick Fillion6 (The Cavalcade of Boys), Leanne Franson (Liliane Bi-Dyke), Paige Braddock (Jane's World), Patrick Fillion3 (The Amazing Adventures of Bill), Craig McKenney (The Brontes: Infernal Angria), Chuck McKinney (From the Cellar)…
Colleen Coover and Sean-Z came by the Prism booth to do some signing and sketching. Sean even gave Chuck McKinney an original Sharpie tattoo that he's considering having made permanent.
The new Prism Comics anthology, Unsafe for All Ages, was snapped up by the APE crowd. The 52-page book featured brand-new full color front and back covers by Colleen Coover, Paige Braddock, Patrick Fillion and Patrick Fillion0 and fabulous comics by over a dozen other contributors. We've put the remaining copies in the online store, but we have very limited quantities. Act now!
"The Big Gay Dinner: APE Edition" was bigger and better than ever, and had a new home at the delightful "Chow" at Church and Market, thanks to a suggestion by local Gay Leaguer Patrick Fillion5. We were all having such a good time that nobody thought to stop and take pictures. It was that great, honestly! After the dinner, folks split up to head out to the Isotope's party-til-dawn extravaganza, stop in for a pint or two at the Pilsner, and hit the happening gay scene in South of Market.
Patrick Fillion1 posted some pictures to our photo gallery, and I've just added a slew more from my wanderings around the Concourse. Check them out!.
Until next time…
