Hard Heroes Party a success!
by Ted Abenheim, posted August 21st, 2006
[Print-ready Version]

The third HARD HEROES PARTY in Los Angeles was a big success. The evening was sponsored in part by Prism, and everyone who attended was a hero - raising $2,600 for BEING ALIVE, a grassroots Southern California HIV/AIDS charity. The crowd reached capacity during the evening at MJ'S BAR with dozens of guys and a few gals in super hero and villain costumes. Seen during evening were multiple Supermen, an older Superboy, a couple of Flashes, a couple of Robins and Batmen, Green Lantern, Capt. America, Cyclops, Cat Woman, Shazam, Daredevil and many more. The usual comments of "How could he wear the same outfit!" were set aside as eveyone had a blast.

The evening featured a mini-con of LGBT artists including Glen Hanson ("Chelsea Boys" and "G-Man"), Brad Rader ("Catwoman" and "Harry and Dickless Tom"), Michael Troy ("Homo-Hero's Big Book of Fun and Adventure") and Lynx Delirium ("The Goth Queen Needs a Mate"). Artist Aman Chaudhary also attended. Glen Hanson looked scorchin' in a revealing outfit that made him look like one of his own G-Men. Glen was very generous in donating his artwork to promote the event and donating his hot, hot T-shirts to help raise money for Prism Comics at the party. Thanks, Glen!

The event was hosted by the Sisters of Perpetual Indulgence, the wild, fabulously creative group of guys and gals who dress in nun drag to raise money for community causes. Special thanks goes to Sister Erotica who has partnered in producing Hard Heroes for 3 years in a row. And special thanks to talented face and body painters Bruce, John, John and Laurren turned party-goers into heroes, villains and living works of art as well as decorating the bar with wonderful big queer comics panels. The director and one of the producers of "Surge Of Power" were on hand to show clips from their new queer-friendly super hero movie. And Super Jackie Beat performed making it hard for the audience not to bust the stitches in their spandex.

Prism was well represented by Ted Abenheim, Rich Thigpen, David Paul Brown and Jeff Alinsangan. Sponsors included Prism Comics, Can-Am Video, HardHeroes.com, Spandexguys.com, Spandexman.com, Wet, Rascal Video and Rough Trade Leather.

More pictures are in the PRISM COMICS PHOTO GALLERY:http://www.prismcomics.org/galleries/thumbnails.php?album=18.

Everyone's hung up their costumes, but we can't wait till the next HARD HEROES!
