Oct. 1 Signing in SF for New LGBT Comic Book Pride High!
posted September 28th, 2006
[Print-ready Version]

On Sunday, October 1, 2006, Tommy Roddy, the writer of Pride High, will be signing copies of Pride High Issue 1 at "Whatever" in San Francisco from 11am to 6pm. Located at 548 Castro Street, between 18th and 19th, "Whatever" is the new comic book shop in the heart of the Castro.

Pride High is a queer-themed independent comic book about five friends and the gay-straight alliance they create at their high school for superpowered youth. A celebration of queer and queer-friendly teens, Pride High will explore racism in the LGBT community, homophobia in communities of color, and the place of young queer superheroes in a world that prefers heroes a little older and a lot straighter.

"Pride High is dedicated to all the queer and queer-friendly kids out there who have formed gay-straight alliances. They're my heroes," says Tommy Roddy, Executive Director of Pride Comics.

Pride High is published by Pride Comics, an independent comic book imprint formed in May 2006 by writer Tommy Roddy, artist Brian Ponce, editor Carl Hippensteel, and Dutch translator Andrew Van Marle. In addition to English and Dutch, Pride High will also be available in Japanese and French.

The online version of Pride High was released on Wednesday, September 20, 2006. The print release is set for Saturday, September 30, the day before the signing at Whatever (whateverstoreonline.com). Print copies may also be mail-ordered through comixpress.com. Visit www.pridecomics.com for the latest updates.
