Prism Comics' 2007 Guide Most Ambitious Ever

Los Angeles, CA – Prism Comics, the comics industry’s premier LBGT advocacy organization, is proud to announce the publication of its biggest and brightest annual guide so far: Prism Comics: Your LGBT Guide to Comics 2007. In June, the guide will be on shelves in comics and specialty shops served by Diamond Distributors. Customers interested in buying a copy should ask their local shop to order copies of the book.
Prism Comics' fourth annual guide is 144 pages of fresh, original, gay and gay-friendly fun and retails for $5.95. Proceeds from the sale of the book help fund the nonprofit's outreach and advocacy programs. The Guide contains over 30 pages of original comics, over 37 pages of creator listings and over 57 pages of interviews, articles and other features, plus—in a first for Prism's annual Guide—16 pages of color.
“We couldn’t be happier with how this year’s guide turned out,” says editor Jonathan Riggs. “Not only is it an excellent introduction to many of Prism’s talented LGBT comic book creators and fans, but it’s fun reading for everyone!”
Click here for a 22-page preview of the Guide, which gives just a sampling of the Guide's many features, which include:
Wonder Woman-inspired paper dolls (customizable for any Wonder Boys out there)
Cosmo-type quizzes for comickers. Find out if you’re a hero or a sidekick, what your supervillain potential is, and, most importantly, if you’re a mutant or not! (According to your ex, the answer is yes.)
Gay love advice and horoscopes from your fave superheroes
A timeline of the history of HIV/AIDS in comics, along with commentary from creators and fans who’ve lived with and lost from the disease
Illustrated interviews with George Takei and Margaret Cho
The secret to becoming world-famous and insanely rich by starting your own webcomic. (i.e. Don’t.)
Eye-poppingly fun comics from more than 20 comic book creators!
Hundreds of profiles of LGBT creators and fans!
And much, much more, inside a sexy, wraparound cover by returning cover artist Joe Phillips, on which an Average Joe discovers the superhero within…and vice versa.
Contributors to the guide include Terrance Griep (Scooby-Doo), Paige Braddock (Jane’s World), Abby Denson (Tough Love: High School Confidential), Ellen Forney (I Love Led Zeppelin), Tommy Roddy (Pride High), Tony Smith (Queerbait) and profiles of Megan Gedris (YU + ME and winner of Prism’s Second Annual Queer Press Grant) and Richard Neal, owner of Dallas, Texas’s Eisner-winning shop, Zeus Comics.
“Every stripe in the LGBT rainbow is represented in the guide,” says Riggs. “It looks better than ever and is packed to the gills with great writing and art. Everyone should check it out.”
