Posted September 1st, 2010
on ComicBookResources.com An intimate crowd was very eager to see Paul Pope and Bob Schreck take the dais at last weekend’s Baltimore Comic-Con. Perry Moore chats with Tommy Roddy
by Tommy Roddy [Print-ready Version]
Perry Moore, the man behind the recent screen adaptation of The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe, is a huge comic book fan. His first novel, Hero, is suffused with his love of the superhero genre. A coming of age tale with a super-powered gay teen protagonist, Hero is young adult novel for a new generation. With well-deserved kudos coming from all corners of the book world, the groundbreaking story has also attracted the notice of the one and only Stan Lee, who has expressed interest in a film version! A bout of bronchitis couldn't keep Perry down and he graciously got on the phone to chat about Hero, comics, Vietnam veterans, growing up gay in the Eighties, and the young people affected by his book.
[Editor's Note: It's particularly exciting to have Tommy Roddy interview Perry Moore, since Tommy has quite a background working with gay teen superhero characters himself, having created and written the series Pride High.]
