In association with Prism and as part of a week of events at Jim Hanley's Universe to coincide with New York Comic-Con, cartoonist Ariel Schrag will appear on Saturday, April 19, at 7:30 for a signing and interview at JHU's Empire State Building location. Ariel's first book from Simon and Schuster's Touchstone imprint—Awkward and Definition: The High School Comic Chronicles of Ariel Schrag—will be available.
Awkward and Definition, the first of a three-book series chronicling Ariel's high-school experiences, covers her freshman and sophomore years. Totally true and achingly honest, with every cringe-inducing encounter and exhilarating first moment documented, Awkward and Definition is an unflinching look at what it's like being a teenage girl in America. By the time she reaches her senior year, readers will discover Ariel's story also is one of discovering her sexual identity as a lesbian. As she matures through high school, her cartooning reflects that growth. It's a fascinating ride to take the journey along with an intelligent, thoughtful and frequently funny cartoonist.
After the signing, Ariel will be interviewed by Patricia Jeres, Prism's Talent and Industry Relations Chair. Patty first met Ariel at Ariel's very first convention, where she and her pals worked a table to sell her first self-made comic. Her potential was obvious!
