Get Your "Intro to Gay Erotic Comics" in Seattle this Saturday
posted April 27th, 2009
[Print-ready Version]

Four gay erotic comics talents—Drub, Dale Lazarov, Patrick Fillion and Steve MacIsaac—will participate in a roundtable discussion this Saturday at the Seattle Erotic Art Festival. In addition, each participant is offering the opportunity to schedule portfolio reviews in conjunction with the event.

The "Intro to Gay Erotic Comics" roundtable discussion will be held on Saturday, May 1st from 11:30am to 12:30pm at the Sharma Center, which is a short walk from the Seattle Center exhibition hall where other Festival events are taking place. The event costs $5, and advance purchase through Brown Paper Tickets is recommended, as seating is limited.

To make a portfolio review appointment, please visit the Festival website, which includes email contact information for each participant.

The description of the participants and their review opportunities, from the Festival website:

Drub creates proto-pornography for the punk and skateboard generation. His images of a new queer archetype with a subversive comic book style are colorful manifestos of youthful lust. Mixing traditional fine art techniques with today's technology, his artwork perverts the mind and the medium. His distinctive work has been featured in Blue, Men, Freshmen, [2] Magazine, Unzipped, Gay-News Amsterdam, and Instigator Magazine, and exhibited in Amsterdam, Berlin, Toronto, and many cities in the U.S.

Porfolio Review: Interested in making a name for yourself in erotic art and comics but not sure where to start? Drub, will give you practical advice on strengthening your portfolio and solidifying your brand before approaching magazines, galleries, and other venues. $25 for 15 minutes. Consultation includes free attendance to the Saturday Roundtable.

Dale Lazarov is the writer and editor of gay erotic comics such as Sticky (drawn by Steve MacIsaac), Manly (drawn by Amy Colburn) and the forthcoming Nightlife (drawn by Bastian Jonsson), all published and distributed internationally by Bruno Gmünder Verlag. Dale's collaboration with Drubskin, "The Welcome Back Fuck", was featured in Best Gay Erotica 2007 (Cleis Press). Dale currently lives and works in Chicago.

Portfolio Review: Do you have an erotic art, comics or photography book project that needs editorial notes or marketing direction? Dale will give you practical advice for polishing your work and your book proposals before submitting them to publishers. $25 for 15 minutes. Consultation includes free attendance to the Saturday Roundtable.

Patrick Fillion is the creator of gay pop culture characters such as Naked Justice, Camili-Cat, Zahn, Deimos and countless others. He is a co-founder of Class Comics and over the past several years has released dozens of his own adult-themed comic books, and has published the works of numerous other up-and-coming artists. Through the Germany-based publisher Bruno Gmunder, Patrick has released several hardcover books, including Hot Chocolate, Heroes and Bliss. Patrick lives in Canada with his partner Fraser, and together the duo continues to merge the world of comics with quality gay erotica.

Portfolio Review: Patrick Fillion is a co-founder of Class Comics, North America’s premiere publishing house of gay erotic comics. Are you looking to make it in the business as a professional artist? Patrick will review your portfolio and give you pointers and practical advice on how to best represent yourself and your work. Learn what it takes to get into the industry and better prepare submissions for publishers. $25 for 15 minutes.

Steve MacIsaac has been drawing naked men for as long as he can remember, far longer than he has been willing to admit. His illustrations and comics have appeared in publications including Unzipped, Men, Bear, 100% Beef, Boy Trouble, True Porn, and Best Erotic Comics 2008. Sticky, an erotic graphic novel done in collaboration with Dale Lazarov, was published by Bruno Gmuender in 2006. He has continued to explore the intersection of sexuality, personality, and society in his series Shirtlifter.

Porfolio Review: Are you interested in making erotic or literary comics, either as an artist, a writer, or publisher? Steve will give you practical advice for all aspects of the industry, and give you a one on one critique of your work. $25 for 15 minutes. Consultation includes free attendance to the Saturday Roundtable.

The Seattle Erotic Art Festival takes place in Seattle this May 1-3. Founded in 2002 by The Foundation for Sex Positive Culture, the Festival promotes freedom of sexuality, speech and creativity through the erotic expression of fine art.
