Bio: Michael graduated from Northern Illinois University in 1994 with a BFA in illustration and moved to Chicago to make big bucks as a commercial artist. The job market being what it was at the time, lousy, he got a job bartending at Roscoe’s, a big, gay bar in “Boystown.” In those years, he fell in love, broke up, fell in “like” a few times, broke up a few more times, and got cast in several stage productions and commercials. After five years of acting and bartending in Chicago, he moved to LA to chase a dream. There he, of course, ended up bartending again and also doing a lot of illustration and animation, which lead to the creation of “Troy”. “Troy” began life as a doodle on a cocktail napkin. It was a slow night.

As of 2008, Michael has been writing and drawing “Troy” for ten years. The first “Troy” strip appeared in the June 1998 issue of “BENT Magazine” in Los Angeles. He has also been nominated several times for the WeHo Award for “Troy”, and won in 2003 and 2006. “Troy” is also a very popular, animated short on YouTube.

His first solo art show, “Groovy, Silly, Sexy, Cute”, appeared at Grace Ellay, a fine art gallery and boutique, in Los Angeles from July 19 to August 21, 2008, and featured several pieces featuring the boys of Troy, as well as several other illustrations and paintings.

His other work includes the seven part, animated, parody “The DiCaprio Code” for Movies.com, magazine and commercial illustration, character design and animation for TV and the net, greeting cards, and storyboards and comps for commercials. He is currently a graphic artist at DaVita, a health care company, where he does graphic design, illustration, and interactive, online, training modules.

And just like his cartoon characters, he lives in West Hollywood where he is still searching for that mythical “gay community” he’s heard so much about.
